Business can be cut-throat, I’m not one to get into heated debates on what is, and what is not the best way to run my business, or how to do the work I do, I follow my heart and make what I think will provide the best outcome. I kinda do my own thing, I don’t consider others as my competition, I’d rather collaborate with others than compete.
A quote I love by Mike Monterio is, “Be responsible for what you put in the world”. This rings loudly in my head daily, the statement is simple but can apply to all things in life, work and personal.
In my 20+ years of self-employment I’ve learned a lot of lessons, some painful, but mostly I’m better for them. This week was a new lesson, a lesson that if you do great work, not only will your client benefit from it, and you’ll earn more business from it, jealously may cause others to attack you for it! This week I received death threats from people I don’t know, actual threats on my life, because someone was not happy with the amount of attention my work was getting over their own. They resorted to making up false statements about me on social media posts, I won’t give them credit, but they accused me of stealing from them and attempted to rally support for their lies. At first this is what caused the threats, but then something cool happened, it backfired on them, people saw through the lies and then support rallied for me making the no-named person look petty and childish.
What’s this all about you ask? I’m not really sure, but it sure felt good to be recognized for my hard work. As far as the death threats, I’m not bothered, if anything it’s proof that I made an impact with my work and that makes me feel great.
